Who is Edith? Illustrator and founder Cutie Cards
Why and how did you get to Cutie Cards?
I’ve always enjoyed drawing, so no matter what I did I’ve tried to keep drawing/illustration by my side. I’ve started with pencils, then moved to sketching people with carbon crayons, then started learning computer graphics programs in my summer vacation while being a student. And then, I found a Belgium company which was organizing greeting card competitions for Europe mostly for Christmas and New Year holidays. I joined the competition by sending in numerous greeting card models. I’ve participated 3 times I think and the second time I got among the first ten participants. I received a few of my card models printed in greeting card format as a gift from the company. I liked how they looked printed and I kept that in mind.
I’ve started working in a different domain but I’ve always worked on drawings or illustrations on the side or worked on projects which included illustration.
Meanwhile I was thinking how to share these illustrations with others, this is how Cutie Cards was born. It first started as a website, where people could send greeting cards for various occasions. This was a free service.
Afterwards, people started to ask if they could buy them in a printed format, so I’ve started researching on how to do this and where to sell them, details like that. I’ve contacted a few stores after creating a catalogue and they were interested in selling my cards. And so, it all begun. It’s not a big business or company or anything, but it’s a corner in my life where I enjoy to be and work.
I am happy that over the years I’ve somehow managed to do illustration and to be able to also share these with the public and maybe make other people smile. I feel these now have a format and can be further distributed to people who enjoy this kind of illustration. There is a goal for my illustrations. I’m always thinking of brining in new ideas, though sometimes time seems so limited.
I have been so implicated in this project that I haven’t really had time to look back; but if I do it actually makes me smile that Cutie Cards is ‘alive’ and I am glad for this. That’s why I think it is important to follow and invest time in things we like or we want to achieve, because it gives a satisfaction that just makes you happy, especially if others are part of what you create as well.
I love children, nature and animals, so I somehow try to combine the three in order to communicate positive concepts of love, kindness, humor. My belief is, that one simple drawing can inspire so many different thoughts to different people.
